  2. Bismillah,
Wa alaikum salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
thats a very deep question Sister Jannah. Everybody is different, so a different approach may be necessary. This is my personal approach.
What I do is to first find out what they already know about Islam, they may have heard something on the news or they may know someone who is a Muslim. A lot of people have misconceptions that will come out in that first conversation and you can clear those up right away InshaAllah.

Find out if they believe in God at all and what their concept of God is, then you can explain the Islamic concept of God, but try not to get into a 'Christianity vs Islam' debate with the person, debates usually lead to hurt feelings because they get all emotional. If they want to know the difference between Islam and their religion, you should tell them but try to avoid debating if you can.

Explain about the pillars of Islam, and about the Quran being the word of God and God's rule book for us to follow, explain basic things like how Islam liberated women (for those who may think we are oppressed), explain how important it is to treat your neighbours good, and how family is of utmost importance, the importance of charity etc. Explain about Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu alaihi wa salaam) being the final of God's Messengers, and that we as Muslims MUST believe in ALL the Prophets and Messengers of God (Peace be upon them all).

Learn as much as you can, so that you can speak from a point of knowledge, dont get into topics that you dont have knowledge about, but tell them that you will go find the answers and get back to them InshaAllah.

And Most of all, try to live as a good example, sometimes its not what you say, but what you do, when they see you acting a certain way, thay may say 'I wan't to be like her', just because of your living example. Sometimes the best dawah is just how we carry ourselves and how we deal with others in a good way.

I hope this was helpful InshaAllah. May Allah make it easy for all of us to show the beauty of Islam to others , Ameen!
